kms from Pelling, Yuksom, literally meaning the ‘meeting place of three lamas’ is of great historical importance to
the Sikkimese. It was here that the first Chogyal was crowned in 1642. The
throne made of stones is even today considered sacred as is the footprint of
Lhatsun Chenpo, which can be seen close to the throne. 2 km uphill from Yuksom
is Dubdi monastery, the oldest in Sikkim. The monastery has now been declared a
National Monument and is under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of
India. About 9 km from Yuksom is the 'Phamrong' waterfall. A bridge
nearby provides excellent glimpse of the waterfall. Khecheopalri
lake, Kathok Lake can also visit
by tourist. Yuksom can be approached either
from Tashiding or from Pelling. The road from Tashiding passes through dense
forests.
Note : Being a border state and for some
other reasons special permission is to be taken for Indian ( to some areas of
Sikkim ). Foreign tourists visiting Sikkim needs to have an Indian Visa. In
addition they need a special Inner Line Permit.
Attraction :
The
footprint of Latsun Chembo(one of the
lamas who consecrated the king) can be seen near Norbugang Chorten where the throne is situated. Yuksam is also
dotted with Dubdi Monastery, one of
the oldest monasteries of Sikkim. It is around 3oo year old. The
monastery has now been declared a National Monument and is under the protection
of the Archaeological Survey of India. 'Phamrong' waterfall,
where water flirts with rocks, is located only 9 km from Yuksom. A

33 kms from Pelling, Yuksom is place where birds watchers
can discover lots of birds. Some of the birds one can find here are Mountain Hawk Eagle, Crimson breasted
Woodpecker, Maroon Oriole, Short billed and Grey chinned Minivets, Himalayan
Bulbul, Ted tailed Minla, White Naped Yuhina, Vrious Trushes, Grey winged
Blackbird, various Tits, White
tailed Nuthatch, various Sunbirds
and many more.

By Air :
The nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB).
By Rail :
The nearest rail is New Jalpaiguri (NJP).
By Road :
After arrive at airport / station hire Private Car or Taxi is the easy way to
reach at Yuksom. But travelers prefer to travel via from Darjeeling or
Gangtok or Pelling to make their journey
easy.

hotels. As because option is few in accommodation you have to booked your
accommodation few month before your journey.
